Swaminarayan temple has attracted attention of the tourists mainly due to its spiritual and calm environment with the depiction of remarkable piece of architecture. This temple had been dedicated for worshipping Lord Swaminarayan who was the founder of the Swaminarayan sect in India. So it is considered to be the first temple in the country which belongs to this sect. This revered temple comprises an exquisite carving of wood and both its exterior and interior portions reflect the traditional Gujarati styles for depicting different aspects of Gujarati lifestyle and culture.
Inside the temple visitors shall come across various idols that had been installed by Lord Swaminarayan himself and shall also have the scope to view personal belongings of the deity that represent sculptures, letters and many more. The outdoor environment of this historic temple has been further accentuated with the formation of lush green garden which imparts a charming and pleasant effect into the mind of the devotees. On the southern portion of this temple there rests 9 tombs that are popularly called as Nine Yard Saints or Nau GazPir.
The establishment of this revered temple dates back to the year of 1822 and the land for constructing this temple was provided by the British government to the genuine followers of Lord Swaminarayan. The responsibility of building this temple was personally entrusted to Ananandand Swami by Lord Swaminarayan himself. Since its establishment, the temple has become one of the few places to visit in Ahmedabad.

This sacred temple is based in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad. Daily bus services can be availed from prominent bus stops of Paldi and Gita mandir area that are close to Kalupur Railway station.
