Kotha Bastion Museum

This palace museum has been constructed like that of a fort where the lake serves as the natural moat. Tourists have to use ferry to reach for the stone causeway which acts as the main link between this museum and the lake. The turrets and towers which surround the palace were previously used for storing arsenals by the soldiers. Presently, they are housing entire collections of age old and antique arsenal collections in the state. The most notable feature of the museum includes a well that was built during the period of Jam Ranmaliji’s reign for ensuring ample supply of drinking water for the people during the drought of 1834 and 1846. This well is considered to be the remarkable masterpiece of medieval engineering and science as it helps to draw out water with a simple blow of a hole.

History

There are many things to be seen in the museum apart from the well. This museum comes with a wide range of collections of muskets and guns. It also showcases artifacts that dates back to the period of 9th and 18th century A.D. Visitors will also get to see sculptures, pottery, wooden carvings, statutes, copperplates of 10th century and various age old photographs. The museum has also gained limelight for the wall frescos and murals that exhibit famous scenes of legendary wars that involved erstwhile rulers of the state.

This museum is located in an island of Ranmlal Lake in Jamnagar. As Jamnagar have good road networks with various cities of Gujarat so there will be no difficulty in reaching the spot of tourist attraction in the state.
