It is a historic artificial lake which is one of the major centers of attractions in Ahmedabad. The surrounding area of this multisided lake has turned out to be a perfect hangout and picnic spot for the local people of the region. Adjacent to this landmark lake, there is the beautiful garden of Nagina Wadi which is the perfect place for spending time with friends and family. Besides, this lake is the ideal place to experience the view of spectacular sunset without any obstruction. The surrounding area of this lake also comprises of children’s park and zoo for further amusement.
The construction of this artificial lake dates back to the period of 15thcentury A.D. which was the brainchild of Sultan Qutab-ud-Din and the completion of this marvelous lake took place in the year of 1451. Later this lake also came to be known as Hauj-e-qutub or Qutub Hojj and it was believed by the people of that time that the lake comprises of a mechanism to purify water automatically. People also claimed that Mughal Emperor Jahangir and his wife used to visit this lake in Ahmedabad. Previously this lake served to be the private bathing spot of the kings and now it is a living testimony to the glorious past of Ahmedabad since 500 years ago.
Where it is located?
This magnificent lake is based in Maninagar in the Ahmedabad city which shares excellent road connection with other major towns and cities of the state. Daily bus services can be availed from places like Paldi and Gita mandir which are located close to Kalupur Railway Station.
Ideal Visiting Time
The ideal time to visit this lake is from the month of November to March when the climate is cool and pleasant with massive turnaround of variety of migratory birds. During this period people can enjoy the soothing environment of the lake and can visit other places of attractions like Balvatika, Kamla Nehru zoological park and many more.
