This university was founded in the year of 1967 through a legislation passed by the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat in the year of 1965. It is an autonomous university and has played a major role in reviving the practice and research of Ayurvedic medicines after independence of the country. For imparting ayurvedic education to the foreign nationals the University in collaboration with World Health Organization has launched International Center for Ayurvedic studies in the year of 1999 on January 5th.
