Dev Ni Mori

Dev Ni Mori is a little town of Sabarkantha district which came into spotlight after the revelation of the remains of Buddhist monastery. History

The discovery has resulted in the revelation of the remains of Buddhist monastery which dates back to the period of 3rd to 4th century A.D. It is due to this discovery that latest information about Buddhist culture has come to light. Excavations revealed the presence of stupas and monastery in the region. This stupa is quite unique due as it arrives with encrypted chest along with the Buddha relics. This serves as a testimony to the spread of Buddhism in this part of the country. It also revealed the coexistence of Buddhism and Christianity in absolute harmony. The inscription clearly indicates the presence of the ashes of lord Buddha inside the casket.

Where is it located?

The site spot is 2 km away from Shamlaji and it will approximately take 47 km from Himmatnagar Nagar Railway station to reach the destination. The place is thoroughly connected with road and it will normally take 125 km to reach the spot from Ahmedabad.

Ideal Visiting Time

March to October is the most favorable time to visit this historical place. Besides, tourists shall also have the opportunity to enjoy the grand traditional fair that takes place in Shamlaji during the period of November.
