The Chorwad seacoast since time immemorial had stood out as a shore that was too risky to visit even for taking a dip in the waters. Mohabbat Khan, one of the Nawabs of Junagadh, upon visiting a sleepy and quaint fishing village in the area in the 1930s, decided to turn the place into his summer retreat. He had a grand palace built for himself that serving as an ideal nesting place in the summers when the heat in Junagadh became unbearable.
Slowly and gradually beach started to gain popularity as a tourist destination. Where is it located?
Chorwad Beach is one of the numerous shores on the long coastline that Gujarat shares with the Arabian Sea. Chorwad, in local parlance means ‘unpredictable quicksand’ and the coast is infamous for its steep, rocky terrain that gives an adrenaline rush to adventurous travelers and vacationers. Chorwad beach can be accessed from the Junagadh-Somnath highway from where it is approximately 8kms away (from some vantage points).
Ideal Visiting Time
The ideal time to visit is during the winter season which lasts from October to March. Weather is relatively cool during these months making it congenial to visit all tourist attractions in their full splendor.
